LIGHT/SHADOW is a gathering of three outstanding masters of traditional instruments and innovators of contemporary music. Benjamin Verdery enjoys an innovative and eclectic musical career and has been described as "iconoclastic" and "inventive" by The New York Times and "one of the classical guitar world's most foremost personalities," by Classical Guitar Magazine. John Kaizan Neptune brings to the shakuhachi (traditional Japanese flute) a new and dynamic sound and feeling entirely his own. Yumi Kurosawa is an innovative musician who was born and raised in Japan and began studying the 13-string Koto at age three, and now lives in New York City where she composes and collaborates with musicians from different traditions.

LIGHT/SHADOW will feature the premiere of the Kyo-Shin-An Arts' newly commissioned work by Ben Verdery "Standing In Your Own Light" for guitar and koto. "As one of the most innovative performers and composers of a traditional Western instrument, Ben Verdery was the perfect choice to create a new work to perform with one of the great innovators of the traditional Japanese Koto, Yumi Kurosawa, " says KSA Artistic Director, James Nyoraku Schlefer.

LIGHT/SHADOW is a program of Kyo-Shin-An Arts an organization dedicated to the integration of Japanese instruments into Western Classical music.
